The Asbestos Victims Association held its annual Memorial Service on Friday 30 November. It was attended by South Australian politicians, both State and Federal, local council representatives, unions and of course the many people who have lost a loved one to the scourge of asbestos disease.
Mayor Gillian Aldridge, Salisbury council, welcomed everyone to the service. Catherine Wegener told the story of her husband Rex, who went to work as a carpenter and died because of it.
Stephen Patterson MP represented the Premier, Steven Marshall MP, and the Treasurer, the Hon Rob Lucas. Peter Malinauskas MP recalled his long association with Terry Miller.
Graeme Pridham spoke about the death of his wife and the help he received from Terry. Riding the Harley Davidson bought from Terry was Graeme’s way of coping, but for ever after, Terry referred to it as ‘my bike’.
All stood for one minute’s silence before the pipers began to play Amazing Grace and floral tributes were laid. AVA president Kat Burge thanked everyone for attending.
